THE Expo on Track for Success

Friday 6 Mar 2009

Rain didn’t deter crowds attending the Transport and Heavy Equipment Expo at Mystery Creek this morning. Visitor numbers for day two of the three day event were 4102, bringing total attendance thus far to 7265.

With over 15 acres of exhibition space occupied by trucks, trailers, diggers, graders, quarrying equipment, forestry machinery and a huge assortment of accessories and attachments; the Mystery Creek site is truly the transport and heavy equipment industries one-stop-shop.

“When we initially started planning THE Expo, we listened to the industry to create a show the industry required.” says Nicola Greenwell Business Development Manager for Mystery Creek Events Centre. “We value the ongoing support and guidance of our endorsee organisations. As the event gets larger we recognise the importance of working with the industry bodies to ensure THE Expo continues to have relevance to all the industry sectors.”

The event is endorsed by the Motor Industry Association, the NZ Truck-Trailer Manufacturer’s Association and the NZ Equipment Suppliers Association.

Perry Kerr from the Motor Industry Association said, “There is no doubting the economic climate is hurting the transport and heavy equipment industries. In November last year the advisory committee discussed whether to continue with THE Expo in 2009, but once the decision was made to continue, the industry has got behind it 100%. THE Expo is certainly substantial, and I think it is one of the best shows of its kind in Australasia.”

The second days’ highlights included the arrival of a convoy of 25 Classic Trucks, providing a nostalgic glimpse of the past and highlighting the amount of technology and innovation used in the transport industry today.

A half hour television programme on THE Expo, will screen tonight on TV Central showcasing the industry and the first day of the event.

The Transport and Heavy Equipment Expo draws to a close tomorrow, Saturday, at 5pm, and includes the Show ‘n’ Shine competition featuring 100 trucks polished to perfection, vying for recognition in five different categories. Prize giving will be held at 3pm.

THE Expo is open from 9am to 5pm on Saturday. Entry to the event is free to those involved in the industry with registration forms available at the gate. Public ticket prices are $15 for adults, $5 for children (aged 5-14 years) and $40 for a family of 2 adults and 3 children.
